Each makes for himself his own hell or heaven,
Each finds for himself his face, false or true.
For none can augur you what's odd or even;
For none can do for you what you must do.
Lines 1,2, & 3 I don't understand. Line 4 is tricky. There ARE things others can do for me, like brush my teeth or balance a checkbook, or breathe! But...IF I MUST DO IT/THEM, THEN, BY GOLLY, I GUESS I (not others) MUST. Hmm? bri ;)
I have come across this excellent poem and this is a TOP Marks poem, I am not able to surf all the poems old and new on our loved PH, I wished I COULD. This poem speaks the truth and nothing but the truth.
This is a beautiful, incredible, soulful poem. It is a sincere, honest look at the self within, the liberty, not enslavement that we have, the first line makes it clear, this is an element of eternity, to miss that is to NOT understand the brilliance of this amazing poem.
