I stopped asking the past to return what it took,
and learned to live beneath an unburdened sky.
I let my tears fall without fearing their weight,
until they carried yesterday out of my eyes.
The pain remained; I simply opened my hands,
and watched it fall like a coat I had outgrown.
Somewhere between release and becoming,
I found a softer self—and made of her my home.
