I Had A Girlfriend Poem by Randy McClave

I Had A Girlfriend

When I had a girlfriend
Money, I constantly on her I did spend,
We did whatever she ever wanted to do
Then unto me she'd say, 'I love you'.
She was always at my side
We walked together with a happy stride,
Wherever I went she wanted to go
Especially out shopping and out to eat and to a show.
I was told it was good for me to have a mate
Someone to share my moments and our fate,
And we complemented each other as a pair
And for her, I was always there.
Whatever I had was hers
Because, she had also the looks and the curves,
But, it was I who did all of the sharing
And it was me who did all of the caring.
I was told from the very start
That it was good that I had a sweetheart,
But, I was holding on unto a true regret
I was always used and in debt.
Many times I thought of asking her to be my wife
I thought it would end my worries and strife,
Unto me she many times proposed
She didn't want to be lonely, I supposed.
She smoked and she drank and I never did
And she also took drugs which I forbid,
She broke all of her promises and always lied
Not once for shame or guilt had she apologized.
She's now not with me any more
She robbed and stole then left through the back door,
Now, I'm single and again I am all alone
Now never again for companionship do I ever moan.
