I Had Let You Die Poem by Reshad Scott

You never said that it would be easy,
trying to understand
the things that you have done.
Remembering the person you once were
and now looking at the person you are now.
What happened?
Where did things go wrong?
Who let you down
and why could I not been there to save you.
You've fallen far from the cliff,
far beyond my reach
and I was not there.
I had let you die,
I had let you fall into the pit of misery.

Your face is now but only a faint memory in my mind;
While your voice is as loud as the thunder that rumbles in the night.
When I dream,
I dream of the younger version of you.
The way you looked the day you left me.
Happy, unpredictable, mad.
Everything that makes you human,
diminished from the face of reality.

Each day I feel as if we are drifting apart,
And each hour I try to find a way back to you;
I don't know when or how long it's going to take,
But in time I will find you
And when I do
I will save you
For this time I will not let you die, brother.
