I had a house, a mother
some sisters and a brother
I had a father before
but that doesn't matter
I had friends indeed
but added nothing to the matter
I had a love once upon a time
but upon my heart she played the cracker
I had some thoughts before
racing here and there in my mind
I had the tongue to say them
but never had the might
I had the hands to be working
but never been so tight
I had tears to be falling
which is something I do every night
I had a flute and a violin before
but my songs were the saddest of all
I had some listeners from here and there
but found out that truely there were no one at all
I had a bunch of money in my pocket
but didn't find really something to buy at all
I indeed had a life
that had nothing at all
