I Have A Double Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Have A Double

I HAVE A DOUBLE

I have a double
He shares my name
We both wear glasses
And are both Jewish
And have both written books
He has gotten where I have not gotten yet
He has obituaries
Mine have not been written yet

I have a double
He is dead
One day I will be
Our names are the same
But he is who he was
And I am not yet
Who I will be.
