I Have Had Poem by Frederick Francis

I Have Had

I have had my choice of many flowers
And wanted nothing more then a tree
That I know will be there for many years;
Long after the flowers have wilted away.

I have been faced with bright prospects
But chosen my little bit of darkness instead.
Because when I close my eyes, once more
The light is gone and all I see is darkness.

I have come across two paths in the woods,
And instead chose to turn back the way I came
Because there was a brief view that took my breath away.
A place where I knew it could get no better.
