I Heard The Angels Cry Poem by Valerie Dohren

I Heard The Angels Cry

Across the golden sunset sky
I heard them cry, I heard them cry
I heard the silvered angels cry -
I asked them why, I asked them why!

They looked at me with saddened eyes
Across the skies, across the skies
Across the dark'ning twilight skies -
"What shall we do if love all dies? "

That they should be so deep forlorn
My heart was torn, my heart was torn
My heart was so completely torn -
A sorrow which could not be borne.

They said that they were so afraid
Their hands they laid, their hands they laid
Their hands they then so gently laid
Upon their hearts - where love is made.

They thought, one day, their hearts would die
It made me sigh, it made me sigh
It made me breathe a heartfelt sigh -
So this, to them, was my reply:

I told them not to be downcast
This will not last, this will not last
This will not yet forever last -
That they will know when it has passed.

And furthermore, don't be afright
You'll see the light, you'll see the light
You'll see the light so hold on tight -
For ev'rythig will be alright.

That love will never ever cease
So be at peace, so be at peace
So be at long eternal peace -
And from your fear find sweet release.
