I LISTENED TO A SONG

I listened to a song
And it filled my soul with longing
And I wrote some lines of a poem
And I hoped my feeling would somehow live in them-

But the longing had too much loss in it
And my lines were not truly beautiful
And I wrote and I am writing
As if it all really will never be
What it should be
And what it never really was
No matter how deeply I long for it
And believe in the dream
Of having had it once
And lost it-
