I'Ll Meet You There Poem by Rachel Brewer

I'Ll Meet You There

Your melody plays softly in my mind.
Thinking of all the things you have left behind.
A mother and father, who love you dearly,
And me, your friend, who will miss you nearly,
As much as her own flesh and blood, it’s true,
There is nothing I wouldn’t have done for you.
I wish that bullet had hit me instead,
Then I would be the one who was dead.
You would have been safe if I had been there,
The bullet leaving you cold, wasn’t fair.
It wasn’t fair that you died alone,
They found your body, as hard as stone.
So once again I’ll say I’m sorry for it all,
I didn’t believe that you would fall.
Well, at least not until I myself had gone,
Because you were a star that brightly shone,
In the night and in the day,
Look at her! The people would say,
Because you filled their hearts with warmth and laughter,
And now I hope your soul gets a happily ever after.
Like in the fairytales, you know?
One with the girl as pale as snow.
She lay in slumber until her prince came to her side,
And soon yours will join you, so no need to hide,
Away on a cloud, or behind the heavenly gate,
He’ll be with you soon, just you wait.
So goodbye my friend, I hope I see you soon,
Your shiny soul as beautiful as the moon.
So sleep now dear friend, and let time pass,
It will fall so quickly like drink from a glass.
I wish you well, and safety on your way,
And I’ll meet you there, I will, some day.
