I Look In The Mirror/And Do Not See Myself Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Look In The Mirror/And Do Not See Myself

I look in the mirror
And do not see myself
I see someone else
An old drawn-faced wrinkled man-

For years
All my life
Even with the changes the years bring
I saw myself
But now it is not myself I see-

I am gone
And this old face in the mirror
And this old me now
Is not me anymore-

I will not ever see myself
In the mirror again-

I am still here
But not for looking at anymore.
