I Love Those Old Hymns Poem by Gary James Smith

I Love Those Old Hymns

Rating: 5.0

Those old hymns are dynamite
When sung by hearts aflame
Who remember the stirrings within
When God's Word was proclaimed
To the depths of our hearts resounding
Receiving grace upon grace
Nothing like it this side of Heaven
When we sought the Master's face

And sin declared as an enemy
That kept us away from God
And the corruption of our hearts revealed
Through the preaching of the Word
Then the awakening of our soul's
To that glorious Light
We knew if we repented of our sin
Everything would be alright

Then the hymns brought it home
The Spirit led us there
The Righteousness of God displayed
The Hope in our despair
The Cross our sure foundation
Where each of our sins were laid
Then the act of His Resurrection
His triumph over the grave

Those hymns made it all so clear
Their accomplishment with the Word
And made our understanding plain
In regards to the work of the Lord
And so they continue still today
Whenever I hear them sung
Reminds me of my so great Salvation
That led this sinner home!
