I Love You Poem by Richard Phipps

I Love You

How many times,
did I waste too much time,
with such silly rhymes,
instead of just saying -
'I love you.'

Such stinging eyes,
no tears left to cry.
Too late in the day,
for me left to say -
'I love you.'

The thought of you gone,
it's for you that I long.
The darkness I dread.
Thoughts come to a head,
Just should have said -
'I love you.'

Darkness can't heal,
or help to conceal,
the hurt that I feel.
It's life too unreal.
If only I'd said -
'I love you.'

Those things left unsaid,
seem so far away,
Please hurt - do not stay,
give me strength to say -
'I love you.'

Life pours out of me,
I hope you can see,
all you mean to me,
and what we could be.
Oh why can't I say -
'I love you? '

Dreams tipping the scales
Like walking on nails
Seems everything fails
When I hesitate to say -
'I love you.'

Such stinging goodbyes,
Those long-lasting lies.
Untrue to my self,
and much less to you.
I should have just said -
'I love you.'

Life lift up my spirit,
Thoughts carry me away.
Help me to know,
it's the right thing to say -
'I love you.'
