I'M Still Me Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

I'M Still Me

Laid my cards on the table
Stared empty and numbed
As he made a move to deal
The risk too high I succumbed
To the jagged sorrow I feel.

Stayed with resolve that I am
A warrior from birth with no fear
Stood with the grit of all I have
Bled out the nagging scars
But I won't be kneeling here.

Tossed the dice and took the cost
Turned with a shrug and a grin
The game may be over and may be a loss
Not all days are rainy so I'm playing
I am still me, sorry there's no caving in.
