I Often Did Daydream Poem by Francis Duggan

I Often Did Daydream

In Summer in the old fields west of Millstreet Town
I often did daydream of literary renown
But daydreams it does seem do seldom come true
And in life we receive what we are only due
I daydreamed that I would be someone of note
A literary icon a very famed poet
I was young then and of greatness the young do daydream
But reality is different to daydream world 'twould seem
The small birds chirped and sung on the hedgerow
And the stream from the high ground babbled as it did flow
On to the big river that flows to the sea
The beauty of Nature was all around me
But more about reality nowadays I do know
Than when I was younger many decades ago.
