I Read What Is Written And Into The Labyrinths Of So Many Meanings I Have Lost Myself Again. Poem by RIC BASTASA

I Read What Is Written And Into The Labyrinths Of So Many Meanings I Have Lost Myself Again.

what is really
happening is that
(and this i think
is too selfish
to think)

you leaned
in favor of those
that
violated the law

ignoring the logic
and reason of what
that law is

to decongest a docket
to clean the files
and then let them all
be free

the one you set free
is caught again
doing the same crime
(for he had gotten
out of his mind)

you told me
the other one went to the
mountain to farm
and had taken a woman
for his life
to raise a family

it must be a nice
story

here we are
getting away from the
meaning of the law

here we are
questioning the law
and wanting to make
our own

the chaos is here
and i am reading again
the past

or its lapses
and i am thinking
what does the future
hold for us?

i read what is
written
and into the labyrinths
of so many meanings
i have lost myself
again.
