I Remember Poem by Gerard McLaughlin

I Remember

Rating: 5.0

I remember as if it were just yesterday
When I gazed the room and saw her face
A light shone through the window, but it was dark outside
Was it a figment of my imagination, or a trick of the light

I had seen her face so many times before
Were they in my dreams or somewhere else
Had I seen her beautiful smile, her piercing eyes, her hair
In a distant memory, or was it really there

I never had the courage to talk to her
She was better, so much better than any woman before
I wanted to, I needed to make her notice me
But I was scared, as frightened as anyone could be

She raised herself off the seat and moved
In anticipation I readied to say something to her
I felt a cold sweat on the palms of my hands
My heart beat faster and faster, I became paralysed

Paralysed through the fear of rejection
I tried to move, but I felt no response in my body
My emotions would not respond to my hearts desire
I could not seize the moment, but I felt the fire

She walked up to me, I froze to my chair
She opened her mouth, her sweet lips moved and she spoke
Even now I remember so well in my thoughts
Her words, her smell, my reaction to her face

I felt alive, she made me smile, yet made me go weak
What is happening to me, she is just being friendly
She wants to talk to me, she is interested in me
I did not want that moment to end, but it had to

I remember that moment so well
I remember that first meeting of our minds,
I remember that as though it were yesterday
I carry that feeling with me and always will
