I Remember Poem by Amanda Saveley

I Remember

'I remember it well, the first time that I saw your head round the door, cause mine stopped working.' -Damien Rice, 'I Remember'

And how I wished I had forced it to work again
How I vainly wish now that I had somehow
Jumpstarted the synapses
Sent a signal in morse code,
Screaming,
'Run! '
'Heartbreak Ahead! '
As if it were a collapsed bridge in the distance
Instead of a much larger risk
And I wanna hear what you have to say about me
What it is that I did so wrong
That you could just throw me away
Maybe I didn't hurt you enough
Somehow, I think that is what you wanted
Hope that my sanity covers the cost
To remove
Stain of my love and paper-mache
Of a heart, lost and bleeding,
Wounded with a single message,
Though I knew what it was from the get-go
I knew the bridge was out
And I wanna hear what you have to say about me
Hear if you're gonna live without me
Wanna hear what you want
What the hell do you want?
