I Tried... Poem by Amanda Saveley

I Tried...

Rating: 3.2

All is fair in love and war
I wish I could believe
Maybe then I'd not don a shield
Instead of my heart on my sleeve
I don't know how I'll face you
Or how I'll wear your ring
How I'll plaster a smile on my face
Or force myself to sing

How does one truly live a lie
After a heart's been broken
How does one go back in time
After the words are spoken
I don't know if I'll forget
The fact is that you lied
But at least I will be satisfied
I'll die knowing that I tried

Don't you know what you did to me
Why couldn't you have just said no?
Why did you insult my integrity
By thinking I'd let you go?
You must have thought little of me
Thinking I was the same
As all the rest of the shallow girls
As if I'd ever share their shame

How does one truly live a lie
After a heart's been broken
How does one go back in time
After the words are spoken
I don't know if I'll forget
The fact is that you lied
But at least I will be satisfied
I'll die knowing that I tried

Oh all is fair in love and war
I wish with all my might
That I could believe for just a second
That it's worth to put up this fight
Don't you know what you did to me
Now that I know you lied
Ah well; I won't be the one to end it
Because I'll know I tried.
