I Salute You Mother Poem by Bartholomew Arkoh Boamah Sarbah

I Salute You Mother

Oh beautiful woman
The epitome of love
It is you I greet dear mother
The one whose nipple I suckled at infancy
As I unconsciously sealed bond between mother and child
And into whose breast I sunk my daggered teeth
To succumb into beckoning sleep

Woman
Your love has never shrinked before me in my aggression
In recalcitrance I grow through the phase of life
But your love heightens in my adamancy
There are moments I make you boil
But your anger drains into a sparkling river
Staring me with life and hope

That love of yours mother
Is it of all women;
And yet innocent lives suffer on the streets?
Is it of all women;
And yet homes are hostile pens?
Indeed you are the standard mother
I salute you.
