I Saw An Angel - Poem by Ayobami Idowu

I saw an angel
the day he rose up with eagle's wings
Softer than a dove
did he promise to keep me warm
Then the rain beat like ice
till his feathers began to fall
to show me this vision was too frail
with words of no pulse
Soon he squawked
with the haunting of a crow
that made the dark clouds fall
And then you knew
You knew what this angel I saw was
