This very morning, I witnessed a shoeless man
hopping onto the tailgate of a large work van,
he stayed low, tried to duck,
but not so lucky
when he got stuck!
Probably wanting to go only a few blocks,
ended up having quite a ride, a big shock!
Light after light
they were all green,
now out of the city
and into a country scene.
The man clung on at high speeds
for his dear life
having left the city
headed East, scared,
face and knuckles white
I happened the whole time
to be on the same path
seeing it all including
some soon fateful wrath.
Nearly an hour of driving
had now occurred
driver well knowing
of the rider he'd secured
Long after the initial passenger boarded
the truck finally stopped,
a red light afforded.
Out of the truck jumped
a man ready for battle
He'd been used to muscle work,
a tough herder of cattle,
At last, off jumped the man,
so humble and poor,
started to run,
but gave in quickly,
knew what was coming,
a severe beating,
pure horror
Barefooted he ran a bit,
thru water, mud and rocks,
as the other threw stones
and a stick,
just to mock
He stopped and cried out
'I'm hungry sir'
'I got nothing to offer, beat me if you prefer'...
His head then dropped
waiting for his body to be broken
When the big guy hit the ground,
apparently things took a turn
and tearfully he was bound
He pulled off his shoes and yelled
'please come back'
'I have something for you,
I see now you're my brother
and you do lack'
In that moment my world
flipped upside down.
I saw tears and remorse
an ending of old frowns!
I saw SALVATION appear from behind man's thick veil.
There is still a chance for HEAVEN in this earthly hell!
