I Shall Not Be Deterred Poem by Hannington Mumo

I Shall Not Be Deterred

Nothing shall deter my love of rhyme,
Whether broken love or the want of dime.
For this flair my heavenly father gave to me
So that my heart might may all delight see
When mortals fall in love with my baffling art
And I a piece of joy upon them impart.

I'm now a score and five years old,
And I pray heavens to allow me to grow old,
So that I may witness my history told
And pilgrims trickling from distant shores
To salute my blessed ink.

No man can spoil my heart,
For I believe in One Immortal above
Who has so far not denied me his love
But has bestowed upon me so hallowed a gift!
