I, Too, Live To Be Free Poem by Ludolf Dauphin

I, Too, Live To Be Free

If you are here
Why can't I?
Why is it difficult to understand
and believe?
I, too, was born of the same right
a free man
You stole my right,
under my mother's nose
Fought back
To regain what was once mine
What you used and abused

If you have the right
I, too, have the right
since I was born
as much a man as you are
Maybe even more of a man
Than you are
I also, am matter.

To live here
and live free.
Free of all men' arrogance
of the same right to die freely
as death,
one day will come knocking
plucking all men equally,
No rules, nor exempt
but unannounced
not even an ounce of prejudice
but of the same right

You may laugh at me
throw rocks at me
even think you better than me
but I, too, know a secret
it's no secret, that
no man is worth more than me

My ancestors knew that then
and also knew
they blood would not run in vain
and fought to give me this right
To live free
Free of hate
Free to love
If you have the right
Why wouldn't I

I, too, have the right to live here
and be free

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
All lives matter, animals included
respect what you cannot give
and also, do not take away
what you cannot give
respect each other,
stop prosecute one another
Love is too grand to ignore
hate can only take you so far
