I Waited Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

I Waited

Rating: 5.0

I waited

I didn't and shouldn't
-I couldn't and wouldn't

Opened door
-and held it and waited
-till he came and entered
-shook, shivered to be safe,

My plate is too full and I must
-prepare for exams,
-have to read; lot to write,

What exam?
-just grades?
-for passage?

And where to?
-and the aim?
-getting job?
-having gain?
-Green buck?
-and what for?
-to return to makers?
-just commerce, gain-spend?

-No, no, no; no, never!

I am barred by culture
-and will not be idle; as useless
-no, never stand laugh at elder…
-or needy and injured…

I have had a teacher
-whose teachers had teachers
-this teaching, training, made culture:
- "Never laugh, or hurt, harm the fallen."

He was old with steps too slow;
-I observed, like baby's…toddler…
-not only sick; was old man and hopeless …
- therefore I, joyfully, held the door and waited…
