I Wanna Run Poem by Boitumelo Mamabolo

I Wanna Run

I wanna run from pain, sorrow and regret.
To a place where love, joy and respect are the only things I let weigh me down.
To a place where encouragement and tolerance is bread fed to every individual, young or old.
I wanna run faster than gossip can spread, where being jealous and vindictive is dead.
I wanna run to a place where 'each one teach one' is more than 'just' a phrase.
Where we teach each other how to fish which later allows us to eat for the rest of our days.
Where the fruits of our labour is way more than we need.
To where we invest more time than it takes to plant the seed.
When my sister is in trouble, then so am i- Where joy is gateway for the things that make us cry.
Where smiles and hugs are contagious, and there's no more blood shed over our religions.
Belief and trust are the pillars of our existence - and the desire for power Is easily resisted.
Where the sound of childrens laughter echoes in our souls, and where we understand that all diamonds come from coal.

I wanna run to a place where a smile is just that, not false or conniving, but displays itself exactly how it seems.
A place where kindess had no hidden agenda or manipulations attached, presenting itself clearly - how it means.
I wanna run from the spores of prejudice behaviours, that are crafted by the hands of those with malicious intent, doing society no favours - Taught to those who are broken & blindly lead- lacking the required attention and understanding at home, a weak appearance they wish to... Urgently shed.
Nurtured until ripe, a venom potent enough to inflict injury to another- a poison that strategically maneuvers, in its effort to incite hostility and fear. A deadly game.
For they have been trained not to view us, as a sister, or a brother - an idea stemming from differences and unfounded misconceptions, roots of losed mindedness, eagerly infecting the thoughts and actions of... WE the people - instead, why not open yourself and fathom your neighbours worth. By there internal beauty, the compassion and endurance of heart, the discerning and moral condition of mind, by the gentle and accepting ability of character, universal similarities, that when remembered makes us all...equal.
I wanna run to a place where relationships and importance in life, is not based on your location and who you know - not by the colour of your skin, height, hair texture or body mass, what you drive, your type of dress or how you flow.
A place where a childs eyes light up from potential and future possibilities - not only determined by employability, but also because... We intellectually incorporate, that our constitution gives each of us the right to prosper, to justice and securely....-live free.
I wanna run from those who cause distortions to the image of a young impressionable mind -the hardest form of wound to heal, sometimes influencing promiscuity, addiction, suicide or crime. And runaways that are difficult...or nearly impossible to find.
