I want you to want me,
Want me so much it hurts,
And once you can't bear the burn,
Know that that is how much I love you.

I want you to hunger, as I do,
For my thoughts, my words,
And long for them,
Until your own are turned to knots,
Because that is how much I long for you.

I want you to dream of me,
Of all the things we say, all the things we'd do,
Imagine every secret rendezvous,
All upon a starlit night,
As I so often do.

I want you to love me,
Love me so all the miles melt away,
So we can meet again someday,
Someday under a lilac tree.
Yes, just you and me.

I want you to ask me to wait,
To save my heart to give to you.
It's already yours, it's true.
But say those words,
And I like the tide will be true,
And wait evermore for you.
