I Was Born Free Gentle People Poem by Hebert Logerie

I Was Born Free Gentle People

I was born free like you, like everybody else
I refuse to believe that I am not free for God's sake
Darn it! Although Blacks have obstructions in America
And Hispanics are no different. The rhythm of Africa
Is running through their veins too. Many will not
Acknowledge the obvious facts. But when they're flat
On their backs in the streets, they feel a dissonant
Reality. Yet, the flood of Africa is the single nutrient
That keeps the world strong, vivacious and resilient
Remember that the first humans were born Africans
You probably wonder who were the first Europeans?
Do a thorough search and let me know what you've found
Please find the truth, otherwise this question of worriment
Will drive you crazy. Racism has no place on this playground
Like all humans, I was born free like you were born free
Stop all silly and sully nonsense, you can't impede my liberty
I have the right to breathe, to inhale, to exhale and to yell
If you provoke me, I will be happy to tell you to go rot in hell
I was born free and will remain free. I'll die free like a whale
Long live freedom, love and civility! Please ring, ring the bells.
