I Was Dog Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

I Was Dog

I was dog

Dogs have had places in my life
the first ones in Feshark
I was child.

Most vicious was the one
never seen, never saw
sure not I.

Was scared of the words that I heard:
“Wears necklace like a saw
fights the wolves with tactics;
uses teeth and its paws, and so on.”

How could I face such dog?
ran away when heard that was in town.

Then dogs of Esfahan
once again I was child
on head meat, in hand jar
of gourmet made of fat, roasted meat
they barked and circled me
I shivered of fear.

Then Tehran and my bitch
she was my best ever
an escort for my way back and forth.

Of course dogs in the books
the one shot by mistake; Jack London’s
many more.

I was dog

Dogs have had places in my life
the first ones in Feshark
I was child.

Most vicious was the one

sure not I.

Was scared of the words that I heard:
“Wears necklace like a saw

on head meat, in hand jar

I shivered of fear.

Then Tehran and my bitch
she was my best ever
an escort for my way back and forth.

Of course dogs in the books
the one shot by mistake; Jack London’s
many more.

But later I turned dog
was paid to attend wars
direct and indirect
orders came from top; by the dogs of a dog
a loyal, a good dog, for those in CIA
his crown they had saved.

I recall my wars on
border of Pakistan, in Yemen and Tehran
I had to fight for life, as do dogs of sledge.
