I Was Once A Poet Poem by Ceejon Ezinwoke

I Was Once A Poet

I was once a poet
Now all that remained
Are the ashes of time past
When words were eaten
Like food with sweet wines
Like dishes on a king's banquet

I was once a poet
How priceless I felt those days
Like a victor after the war,
Like coronation after imprisonment
A reason to bask in smiles
How I long to feel the same

I was once a poet
Nearly drowned in the sea of words
A depthless sea as vast as vast
Flowing from all directions
And flowing into all directions
Weaving beautiful poems of poems.
