I Wept For You Poem by Vera Sidhwa

I Wept For You

I wept for you.
You seemed to race in time,
To see who would win,
And love for me was not a contest.
Love was not to be dragged around someone's heart,
And tie a choking knot around it,
Till all of love's breathe would stop breathing.
I thought we were one,
And I thought could fly high as the sky,
But our falling wings wouldn't let us.
And you won, in our failure,
Because failure of love is what you did seek.
And this is what you achieved for us both.
But you won instead in destroying our love.
My heart beat so painfully.
It kept skipping beats.
I lay on the floor, never wanting to get up.
