I Wonder Myself Why Poem by Francis Duggan

I Wonder Myself Why

Two hares and a brown falcon by the road as we drove by
And a pair of trumpeting brolgas in the darkening evening sky
Some may see this as a good omen whilst others may see it differently
Many of our lives are based on superstitions or so 'twould seem to me
Two brolgas and a brown falcon and two hares one young one old
Of such everyday occurences stories are often told
One sees such things in Nature as you drive on the roadway
From Countrytown to Countrytown in the fading lamp of day
Unmistakeable by their appearance and in their trumpeting cry
Large birds with long necks outstretched to roost the brolgas did fly
The falcon sat on the roadside fence and the hares in their coats of brown
Across a bare rain starved paddock were running up and down
Two hares and a brown falcon and two brolgas in the sky
When you ask me why i write of this i wonder myself why?
