A naked Vietnamese girl running away
from napalm explosion,
the lifeless body of a Kurdish toddler
lying on a Turkish beach,
a woman with bleeding forehead
sitting in an airport under terror attack
are frozen images of human cruelty.
There is another image everlasting
in memory: Jesus scourged,
crowned with thorns and killed
on the cross redeeming death
for the sins of mankind, sending out
the message of love and hope of life
in a world rocked by violence and hate.
