If I Had Poem by Peter Mamara

If I Had

by M. Eminescu (1850-1889)

If I had a flower —
Beautiful, fresh and attractive,
Like May's blossom,
A sweet propagation of a plain
Tickled by green grass,
A plain, which bends and stretches
And undulates slightly —
I would tell her soft whispers of love.

If I had a tiny flower —
Beautiful and fresh,
White, like the bosoms's colour,
Of pink-white and lilac blend,
Tender and young like a lily,
One, who sings to me happily and softly—
I would tell her soft whispers of love.

If I had a dove
With a face of a young-woman
— Gentle like a day of spring —
I'd sing to her all day long
— A tender, short, short song —
I'd sing to her softly,
I'd tell her soft whispers of love.
