If I Should Die Poem by Francis Duggan

If I Should Die

If I should die tomorrow and you know or know of me
Do not shed a single teardrop for what a waste this would be
For tears are of no use to the dead who are beyond joy and woe
And cause sadness in the living mind only happens to be so

It will not matter to me then what others of me say
For there are no human feelings where deceased people lay
Not everybody I know or know of like me this much I do realize
As people age they should grow wiser though I am not saying I am wise

I am in the Autumn of my life why otherwise pretend
And for me every tomorrow one nearer to my end
Many of us does have our crosses given in life to us to bear
This is one thing in common that most of us does share

If I should die tomorrow just leave me be in peace
From life and it's cares and worries I will have found release
It will not matter to me then what others of me say
There are no human feelings where deceased people lay.

A wise poem on death is written like the death of autumn.
