If Only You Cared - Poem by Jame Paise

If only you cared
If only you'd see
More than just a
Distortion of me
To look past the smiles
And posing self-esteem
Unveil my frail heart,
Crying out listlessly
To be redeemed
of all mistaked
That have left it
Scarred and bruised.
All the lies the past
you believe to be true.
I'm not a slut
I'm not a whore
I was just a girl
asking for more
For more than she could handle,
Not enough respect,
'Til the day she broke
Frozen by cold nothings
So maybe the lies were true,
But what's the truth anyway?
Can't you see my wretched soul
Begging for forgiveness
A little slack on the reins of righness.
