Illusions. Poem by Katherine Kay Graven

Illusions.

Verse 1

We touch…
there is no feeling.
Empty embraces share no chance of healing.

We speak…
there is no voice.
Pleading words become misunderstood noises.

We kiss…
there is no passion.
Emotional betrayal turns into
unforgivable,
lonely actions.

Chorus

Distance only restrains our love.

Verse 2

We smile…
there is no joy.
The deceiver's mask has been destroyed.

We cry…
pouring out sadness.
Tears wasted, becoming a hardened shell of emptiness.

We glance…
there is no spark.
Love's gleam in our eyes turns dark.

Chorus

Distance only restrains our love.

Verse 3

We want…
there is no getting.
Leaving what seems like a lifetime of regretting.

We need…
there is only loneliness,
leaving what seems to be
a lifetime of bitterness.

We love…
in our actions as if we cared,
realizing in this lifetime
it was never there.

Bridge

For it was not distance at all
restraining our love.

Leaving regrets of love's failure,

toooo
never

seeeee

through

love's

rose-colored glasses

of

Illusions

anymore.

It was only

Illusions.
