Katherine Graven Poems

dedicated to
Clinton and William

There was a time when my son would do

I am the American Constitution.
Do you know my name
There is not to be a substitution
I am not to be changed

I perceive a hushed sound
Bringing a tender memory to mind
Of a forbidden passion tied and bound
Flowing sadness from my eyes

Elegant Souls dancing in moon light
Gracefully waltzing through the stars
Swaying amongst one another
In enchanting galaxies near and far

Dedicated to the Homeless

Jesus was sent to this world as the Light
So, I could see beyond my sight

dedicated to my sisters

The Feelings

Dedicated to my husband

I feel the softness, a touch of your hand

Are you my cowboy
Who I have been searching for
Are you my cowboy
Who will come knocking at my door

Holy Spirit flows in the mist of mortal life
Prayers sent, to the Father, for strangers in strife
Laying of the hands on wounded shattered souls
Never taking any credit or allowing anyone to know

He lies among his folded blond wings
Ignoring the signs of his immortality
The pain is there for the truth to be seen

Is like writing in tongues
Someone may not understand
To someone else

written for Bud
my father

Tear dropp falling on my cheek

I gaze your way… You turn away
But still it is in your eyes what you cannot say
So we hide the truth we are denying
We want to touch… We want to feel

Satan’s Demon lay in waits
His patience is what it takes
For he knows exactly what to do
In how to destroy the beauty in you

“Dedicated to all my sisters”

Debbie, Crystal, Darla, Edie
“Sisters… the love that will forever be the golden thread that binds us together”

Tick tock,
the relentless sound of grand-father time
Turning disillusioned memories
into poisons bittersweet wine

Darkness’s shadows fall over me in ghostly disguise
In exhaustion I close my blinded eyes
Mind’s light flashes photos of life gone by
Even in sleep there is no where to hide

Here I stand before you
With only my image to show
Do you think you recognize me
As someone who you truly want to know

I must have heard it in a song
A melody so sweet
I must have felt it in the breeze
As the golden leaves fell at my feet

Before you ascended from GOD'S arms on Christmas Eve
HE kissed your forehead and HIS wisdom was sealed permanently
Then in a thunderous whisper that vibrated through eternity
HE spoke go MY child and feed the spiritually in need

Momma Knows Best

dedicated to
Clinton and William

There was a time when my son would do
The things that made him cry
He would run into the house
With scraped knees and arms
And say why mommy why

I would look him in his eyes of blue
Then kiss the boo-boo pain away
For he knew
I was going to tell him
the same thing
I told him yesterday

These words of tough love
Come flowing from my lips
I told you so young man
Now dry it up and go outside
and don’t you do it again

With the tenderness of a mother’s touch
I would wipe his tears away
And later his little brother would run in
with the same injury

I would have to repeat the wise words
My little guy already knew by heart
Still wondering if he would ever get the jest
That his mommy always knows best

Day after day it never failed
My boys always put my words to the test
One or the other would do the things
That would have them limping at best

I would say with a weary smile
Can’t you boys be good for just a little while
But still you never let my worries rest
You know your mom always knows best

They learned to know
when I told them so
To be extra careful in what they do
But still it never failed
I would hear a wail
I wondered who dared who

Now I have a son who is kind-a on his own
And he will call me up and say
You know I have this problem mom
And I need advice from you today

Mom you’re the best…

Then there is my youngest son
He is the one who still wants to do
The silly boy things he is not suppose too
But I know the day will come
When he will call and say
You know I have this problem mom
And I need advice from you today

Mom you’re the best...
