Importance Of A Laugh

After I could do no 'better'
than rhyme it with 'matter',

and 'favour' with 'ever',

I sought help from a roosting poet
to curry me favour from a rhyming speech.

I soon sent him packing:

the rhymes of the wretch were fine,
but the mood of doom was out of line.

What was lacking

was a laugh
and an off-rhyme to bring one on.

I wrote 'the bride',

but said, 'The wedding was by most enjoy'd;
the best-dressed there, the broid.'

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
after Burns' 'Address, Spoken By Miss Fontenelle'.
A roosting poet- one you look up to.

In Australia,
a fact that we cannot hide
is that some say 'oi' for 'i'.
Though they don't say 'bi' for 'boy',
they do say 'broid' for 'bride'.
