In Deep Summer Poem by Mary Angela Douglas

In Deep Summer

to live without premonitions

to write in chalk but not to be erased

to love in the multiplicity of words

the language you were born for

the infinite combinations in the music

may it never end

though the goodly intended float away

distracted by the bright and shiny

the puzzles easily solved;

wearing the crown of ambiguity

and give you sand to eat

and hasten away in blue sunshine

beauty, I said

spelling it out with almost my last breath

in the Stations of the soul

writing it in frost

in the deep summer.

I like the space you situate yourself in, directly framed by the creator; I like the pride of vocation and the counterpoint of loneliness.
