In Graceful Flight (The Avocet) Poem by john (called jack) wren

In Graceful Flight (The Avocet)

Robed in a dapper jaunty coat
of quality black and white, this
splendid sight lights up the pond
when approaching it in flight.

Swinging their heads to and fro
In the most amusing way,
they fill the air with the musical
sound of a piper in full play.

Stalking ponds with shallow draught
where the rhythm is lively and brisk,
a favoured place to play hide and seek
Or perhaps just frolic and frisk.

Quick and incisive, piercing the skin
of the ponds muddy tableau.
they move with the medical skill
of a surgeon in full flow,
