In My Younger Years Poem by Francis Duggan

In My Younger Years

In my younger years near the Town of Millstreet
In the green countryside where the waterways meet
I grew to love the natural World around me
Good memories of what was today live in me
I grew to love Nature long before i reached my physical prime
And this is going back many Seasons in time
In Spring in the flat rushy fields near where Finnow waters flow
Concealed from view the shy male pheasants did crow
To be polygamous is their natural way
In fatherhood the male pheasant any part never play
Of Nature i was learning something new every day
In life that we never stop learning seems true for to say
And today so little of Nature i realize i know
Far south of the fields where Finnow waters flow.
