In The Ancestral Land Of My Papa.... Poem by RIC BASTASA

In The Ancestral Land Of My Papa....

i want a
bigger house
but i cannot
cut this tree

a wider garage
for another car
but i cannot
cut that tree

a new gazebo
in the middle of
this place
but i cannot cut
another tree

and so i keep
the trees
forget about a
bigger house,
a wider garage,
and no gazebo,

and then i realize
with all these
trees, old ones
at that, that has
been growing in
this ancestral land
had given me more
this sense of
home.
