In The Birdcage At Flemington Poem by Francis Duggan

In The Birdcage At Flemington

In the birdcage at Flemington racecourse on Melbourne Cup day where the wealthy and famous hang out
There are lots of multi millionaires and billionaires with big egos about
An invite only marquee that is reserved for the privileged few
That in horse racing there is so much class distinction is not saying anythingon any way that is new
The truism that money speaks every language is quite evident at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day
If you are not a multi millionaire celebrity from the Birdcage you will be turned away
Where beautifully dressed glamorous women and well dressed males for attention with each other compete
There is never a shortage of ego whenever and wherever wealthy celebrities meet
At the Flemington race track during the Spring racing carnival at the Birdcage Marquee
You will see the wealthy and egotistical showing off on t v
As they compete for the best dressed female and male of the Melbourne racing carnival Spring
One can truly say of them that humility is not their thing
At the birdcage marquee in Flemington race track on Melbourne cup day
If you are not one of the invited wealthy and famous from there you will be turned away.
