In The Long Night Lonely As Fear Poem by Shalom Freedman

In The Long Night Lonely As Fear

IN THE LONG NIGHT LONELY AS FEAR

In the long night lonely as fear
When sleep is a distant unreachable dream
And cold is the heart of one's own incessant sickness
In this long lonely night
In this fear of mind
And failing of body
In this all lost world of loveless longing
In this memory haunted life of meaning vanished
In all this sleeplessness loneliness fear unquiet tiredness
In this long unending night
Where is the love that can warm and sustain me?
