In This Crisis Poem by Je'free Y .

In This Crisis

In this crisis, there is a sense of urgency,
And usefulness to others given with no regret
Nor a thought of recompense.
I have seen the need, and overlooked the cause -
A practice that began at home, and not ending there.
The bread in my cupboard is for the hungry.
The coat in my closet is for the naked.
Let me share my last glass of water with the thirsty
Even when I am just as dehydrated.
This is the language that the deaf can hear,
And the blind can see -
Divine, it is not of the hand, but of the heart.
No matter how small, nothing is ever wasted.
Each act is a stepping stone towards a better place,
A memorable milestone in our lives -
Lives measured not by duration, but by donation;
Not by what we get, but by what we give.
In my mind, I keep the thought that a heart
Without charity is indeed an endangered heart.
