In This Life Poem by Tristan King

In This Life

In the soft sounds of silence I wait
Blue silk billows in the wind
Time endless or illusion stops
As all I know falls quietly and singular -
into a silver tear I am unable to hold onto
In my mind
I trace the lines of your face with a finger-tip
Feel your heart-beat strong and your warmth
Alive, Alive
In a world without words you become all-knowing
You see what went un-noticed in this Life
what was overlooked.
You acknowledge that which was hidden
just below the surface of a smile
You see the sheer depths of sorrow and loss
You finally see me.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem was inspired by a dream I had after a lover passed away suddenly. He was a warm and wonderful man who loved life. He told me once that he could not understand how people could suffer from depression. I had hidden from him the fact that I had suffered depression most of my life. In the dream he came to me and had a look of complete empathy - as if he finally understood.
