In Your Shoes Poem by Danny The Dreamer Boyd

In Your Shoes

With every step you forward take,
Two steps are taken back;
I'm not sure why you're so confused,
I too've been battered, bruised—
Yet I do choose to let you in:
You're underneath my skin—
I think I might have said too much;
You disengage, I clutch!
How could I when I've courted you?
Nay; had, and loved anew!
Should I more reassurance give,
Or soothing words of love?
They're all a temporary fix;
I'm bleeding from your sulky pricks!

I need to walk yet in your shoes a mile:
Perhaps at last I'd understand,
And help this chute to safely land—
It seems I've stepped in burning coal,
And you and I can't e'er be whole:
I too, alas, won't make me smile…
