Inherited Challenges Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Inherited Challenges

It has been said,
Love is blind.
Hypnotizing and confines,
Common sense.
To a lifetime of regrets.
Leaving many who listen.
With minds to use.
And with cleared heads.

However...
There are still those,
Who choose...
To willfully volunteer.
Their lives to sacrifice.
Ignoring voices shouting near.
'Run for your life!
This coast is not as clear,
As it appears.'
Yet...
No love to fantasize it,
Can unblock those ears.
To hear what has been shouted!

INHERITED challenges faced,
No divorcing them...
Can ever chase them away.
There is no court order.
Or a hired lawyer.
That can prevent,
What has been inherited...
To undo,
Which has been done...
To one born,
Into confusion and disarray.
This...
Is not a criminal offense.
Regardless,
Of the evidence and proof...
Tearfully produced of it!

The ones who inherit,
Their challenges to know them...
To be,
A lifetime to experience...
On knees praying frequently.
Know even with prayer.
And kept faith.
Will still take time to recover,
From alcohol.
And drug addiction!

INHERITED challenges,
Is much different...
Than hiring a lawyer.
To claim a wish to divorce,
From someone to determine...
A chemistry once to have,
Has gone.
No longer shared to be there.
Hoping things,
With understanding...
Tolerance and patience,
Will eventually work out!

The only way out,
For one who has inherited...
Challenges.
Is to walk out many doors.
Shut to lock them.
And not look back!
No matter the bridges,
One may burn doing this!
To know...
Mental health and survival,
Is in no need for explanations!
