Insult To Injury Poem by Samantha Stough

Insult To Injury

Purpose...
I shudder to descend in the corners of my mind,
To wonder if it still has a meaning
Memory...
A fatal acquaintance that always is persistant
I no longer feel the sting of the tears streaming
Silence...
If only it should hinder my mind's eye for a moment
Just give me a moment to breathe
Resilience...
It comes and goes
A concept far more glorious than me
Beauty...
An insult added to injury
For I can no longer perceive myself the same
Treason...
Is it yours or mine?
I grow tired of wondering if I deserved the pain
Lingering...
Your voice in my ears,
Something I will not dare hope to hear again
And for eternity...
I pray that I am not an enemy,
But I refuse to be a friend
